Content | The MOCKE Emergency Steering Cord for surfskis (and kayaks) was designed to provide emergency directional steering if your rudder line or cable snaps.
When one of your rudder lines or cables snap it is virtually impossible to steer in a straight line. Your paddling outing immediately turns into a rescue situation. With the MOCKE Emergency Steering Cord you are able to attempt a self rescue while you wait for assistance.
Features:
One size fits most surfskis and kayaks with understern rudders.
Comes in a mesh bag with attachment loop.
Adjustable noose fits over the tail of your craft.
Strong stainless steel hook to hook onto rudder tiller.
High quality, strong 5mm shock cord.
INSTRUCTIONS FROM MOCKE (also watch the video on below link):
Make sure you set up and adjust the length when you recieve it before going paddling, or it will be not help when needed.
Fitting:
Remove the emergency steering cord from its bag.
Place the canvas noose around the tail of your craft.
Hook the stainless steel tiller hook around or through the rudder cable/line attachment point.
The Shock cord (elastic/bungee) should be pulled tight but not fully extended. It should not be slack.
The cord should pull the rudder tiller back just past centre.
If the stainless steel hook cant reach the tiller then increase the size of the noose using the slider and ladder lock.
If it reaches too easily and the cord is slack then decrease the size of the noose using the slider and ladder lock.
Once fitted place it back in the bag and store in your PFD or craft equipment hatch.
Using:
Locate and take the emergency steering cord out of its bag.
Place the noose over your wrist; you don’t want to drop it.
Raft up with another paddler.
If alone you will need to get in the water. Remain leashed to your craft.
Open up access to the rudder tiller or steering mechanism at the back of your craft.
If you are rafted up next to a fellow paddler give them the the emergency steering cord.
Slip the noose over the tail and hook the stainless steel hook onto the tiller, ON THE SAME SIDE STILL CONNECTED TO THE PEDALS.
The cord will pull the rudder back to centre (or just past) and you will be able to steer.

All watersports | We have 2 types of Paddle Leashes:
1. Craft-to-Paddle leash by DOWNWIND and MOCKE: this leash has been designed to attach your paddle to your craft and ensure that your paddle is not lost in the event of a capsize and swim. When you are not in the surf zone you can also rely on the Paddle Leash to prevent losing your craft during capsize.
2. Wrist-to-Paddle leash by MOCKE: this leash has been designed to attach the paddle to your wrist to keep your paddle secure during moments you need most. When paddling in open water there are moments when holding onto your paddle is cumbersome, difficult or impossible. With the Mocke Wrist Paddle Leash you can simply let go, free up both hands, and then grab the paddle as soon as you are ready to paddle again.
For example, in the event of a capsize, when one needs to remount in deep water, it helps not having to worry about losing your paddle should you let go while climbing back into the seat. Or, should you need both your hands to retrieve something from your lifejacket, make adjustments in and around the cockpit or work on a fellow paddlers’ boat rafted next to you, you can briefly let go and focus on the task at hand. Finally, you can rest secure that your paddle stays in your hands during moments when the wind and sea be become so violent that you fear your paddle will be ripped from them.
Features:
Easy slip on wrist attachment
Velcro adjustment for a secure fit
Neoprene padded surface for comfort
Lightweight & short paddle shaft coil
Instructions for use:
Attach the leash to the shaft using the smaller velcro fold-over loop.
The fold-over loop can be inside or outside of your hand grip. Most paddlers prefer it attaching to the outside.
For right-hand feathered paddles attach the wrist paddle leash to the left hand side.
For left-hand feathered paddles attach the wrist paddle leash to the right hand side.
Slip your hand through the padded wrist strap, grab the shaft and use the other hand to tighten and fit. Not too tight, not too loose; just right.
Practice carrying and maneuvering your ski on land while leashed to your paddle.
IMPORTANT: Always inspect your paddle leash before each use.
Care instructions:
After regular contact with salt water wash in soapy water, rinse with fresh water and hang up to dry out of direct sunlight.
We do strongly advise paddlers to use Calf Leash as well, designed to keep YOU connected to your craft at all times, including rough conditions.
