Docs Ocean Paddlers Club Captain Ivor Dorkin led by example attending the Shaw & Partners WA Race Week. A week of racing, culminating with the Perth Doctor. An 27km endurance race in 20 knot wind from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach, with the young South African trio of Kenny Rice, Mark Keeling & Uli Hart taking a clean sweep of the men’s all Saffa podium. For the ladies it was Kiwi race machine Danielle McKenzie, followed by Aussie Jemma Smith and Anna Swetish of USA. In true Buffalo style, Ivor was so motivated he decided to enter the Cape Point Challenge also.
This year’s Cape Point Challenge 2022 (30th edition) may not have had the number of DOSC Ocean Paddlers entrants as previous years, however, the three powerhouses that did make the journey, took on this tough challenge and finished strongly despite the constantly changing conditions. Great personal achievements and satisfaction of all the hard work training in Dubai (flat and hot from June to late November) paid off. Well done Ivor, Ed and Col for their great results. Ed & Col were in the double and came 13th overall, 7th in the doubles and 1st in their age group. Ivor finished in a very respectable 69.
